BearingPoint has expanded its global footprint with a new office in Lisbon, Portugal. The office supports the development of its regional client base, as well as international client engagements in Portuguese-speaking African countries. The firm has tapped advisory veteran Manuel Lopes da Costa to run the firm.
The market entry into Portugal is, according to sources at the privately held consultancy, aimed at strengthening the firm’s regional client relationship as well as providing a springboard for the development of new clients. In addition, the addition of a Portuguese speaking team with an on the ground presence will better allow BearingPoint to serve Portuguese speaking countries in Africa, many of which are enjoying robust economic growth, including Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Cabo Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe.
The new Lisbon office, the firm's 22nd globally, will be primarily focused on two main sectors: financial services and consumer industries, delivering services across the full range of the firm’s service lines. In addition, the Portugese team will support companies dealing with regulatory reporting requirements and advanced analytic solutions.
To run the new office the business advisory has hired consultancy industry veteran Manuel Lopes da Costa, who joins the firm as Country Managing Partner from PwC, where he was the Advisory Leader for PwC Portugal from 2013. Lopes da Costa’s consulting career, aside from other positions, began in 1991 at Andersen Consulting, before joining Deloitte in 2008.
Lopes da Costa is supported by André Santos Ferreira, a Financial Services expert and Partner at the firm (also an alumnus of PwC, Deloitte and Arthur Andersen) and Pedro Antonio Duarte, a former CIO of Barclays Bank in Iberia.
Peter Mockler, Managing Partner of BearingPoint, says, “The entry into Portugal is a major milestone for BearingPoint. This will enable us to use our experience as a leading European firm with global reach to contribute to the solution of key challenges that our Portuguese and European clients face.”
Manuel Lopes da Costa, Country Leader for Portugal, adds, “The objective is to leverage BearingPoint’s successful European services and cutting-edge solutions for our clients in Portugal. This includes, for example, the RegTech products for financial services clients, as well as logistics offerings for consumer business companies. I am committed to deliver the best services to our clients and to expand our presence in Portugal according to their growing demands.”
