IBM Consulting has doubled down on its commitment to South East Asia with the launch of a new Innovation Hub in the Philippines.

The aim of the fresh Innovation Hub in Cebu City is to cater to growing demand for IBM Consulting’s clients in Japan, on topics including digital transformation, business processes, hybrid cloud, application management, artificial intelligence, supply chain, finance and procurement.

“The launch of the hub is in response to an increase in demand from our Japanese clients,” said IBM Consulting senior vice president and chief operating officer, Kelly Chambliss. “In Cebu City, we now have a dedicated delivery team with strong technology skills, a passion for client innovation and a commitment to delighting clients.”

Chambliss added that the Innovation Hub is staffed by “highly skilled Filipino professionals” proficient in a range of business processes and technology topics.

According to a recent benchmark, Cebu City ranks as one of the world’s top emerging outsourcing destination due to its abundant and skilled workforce. In the Tholons Top100 Outsourcing Cities study, Cebu City managed to outrank peers such as Shanghai and Beijing in China, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, Krakow in Poland, Kolkata in India, and Cairo in Egypt.

Welcoming the new hub, Hiroshi Katoh, managing partner of IBM Consulting in Japan, stated: “We are committed to further strengthen the tie with our team in the Philippines to meet the continuous demand for digital transformation work for the success of our Japanese clients.”

IBM’s extensive presence in Asia dates back to the 1930s. The company currently has operations in 15+ countries across the region.

In support of its services, IBM operates several different types of hubs in the region. In China, India, and Singapore among others, IBM has so-called Research Labs, where it conducts research in areas such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and quantum computing.

IBM also has Client Innovation Centers, which focus on process and technology work for clients, and Innovation Hubs, which focus on delivering digital innovation and transformation support.

In the Philippines, IBM has been operating a Client Innovation Center since 2004. The team operates around the clock and supports more than 200 clients in 15 different languages, including English, Mandarin Chinese, and Japanese. The new Innovation Hub has been integrated within the Client Innovation Center.
