Grant Thornton has appointed Wi Liem Chua as the nation head of management consulting division in Australia, succeeding Jamie Downs.
With more than 15 years of experience, Chua will retain his role as national head of retail and consumer products, which he took over in June 2023.
As a consultant, Chua has a track record of collaborating with clients on transformation initiatives and developing operational models that align with customer, employee, and business goals.
Liem Chua said: “I’m humbled to be stepping into this role, and from a leader who genuinely cares for our clients and people keeping our firm’s CARE values in mind across all decisions.
“I have worked closely with Jamie since starting my consulting journey, and in the past 18 months we’ve created greater synergy in my capacity as National Head of Retail & Consumer Products. Having a mentor and an expert like Jamie in our national team is a privilege and I’m excited to continue his incredible legacy.
Downs stated: “It was a natural fit for Wil to become National Head of Management Consulting. His drive, dedication and inherent curiosity has seen him thrive in consulting since he made the career move a decade ago.
For now, I will continue in my role as Partner at Grant Thornton, working alongside Wil in his expanded leadership role.”
In June 2025, Grant Thornton’s Brisbane office named Matthew Lane as a corporate tax partner.
Lane has a background in in-house roles and collaborations with top-tier professional services firms with expertise in in corporate tax advisory spanning over two decades.
The leadership changes come on the heels of Grant Thornton’s acquisition of Auxis, a company based in Latin America that offers outsourcing and business modernisation services.
Founded in 1997, Auxis helps organisations enhance and expand their operations through innovative methods, advanced technology, and shared services.
The acquisition will bolster Grant Thornton Advisors, the US-based advisory division offering strategy, transformation, and operations services.
