IDOM worked with H&Z Management Consulting on the development of its new growth strategy in the space sector. With the strategy in place, the Spanish engineering group is now driving the implementation phase.
Bilbao-headquartered IDOM ADA partnered with H&Z Management Consulting to create a strategic roadmap that guides the company’s growth in the space sector.
IDOM ADA is a company that develops advanced technological and scientific instruments and facilities. Its projects involve applied mechanics, structural design, and electronics, with telescopes a primary area of expertise.
The business is part of IDOM, an engineering group that works in areas such as power generation, renewable energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, civil infrastructure, supporting architecture and engineering projects.
The strategy sets out to help IDOM ADA become a leader in specialized design and manufacturing services to the highly competitive but also rapidly growing space sector. The growth roadmap identifies and evaluates both institutional and commercial opportunities, and prioritizes them sector in terms of market attractiveness and ease of implementation.
“We’re thrilled to have supported IDOM with their journey in the space sector. It shows the strength of H&Z’s expertise in strategic services and the space sector,” said Eduardo Bellido, senior advisor at H&Z Management Consulting.
The space opportunity
The space sector is rapidly growing as technologies related to space travel, optics, and other related fields continue to mature. The costs involved in space travel have shrunken dramatically in recent years, as reusable rockets (like those made by SpaceX) have begun to make commercial space activities viable. That includes activities like mining and manufacturing.
Much of this growth in the space industry in the coming years could be within the realm of low Earth orbit activities. According to a recent study from Roland Berger, the low Earth orbit economy could contribute up to $1 trillion to the global economy by 2040.
It is no wonder why companies like IDOM ADA, which has expertise in areas like applied mechanics, mechatronics, optics, and other specialized fields at the intersection of science and technology, are interested in the space industry.
The company has helped build various complex telescopes, including part of the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT), which will be the largest optical/near-infrared telescope in the world – capable of producing images 16 times sharper than the Hubble Space Telescope.
“We are very proud about this new partnership in Spain, which is a key country for us at H&Z, and it’s central to our plan to grow our presence in Europe and around the world,” said Stefan Aichbauer, managing partner at H&Z Management Consulting.
H&Z Management Consulting is an award-winning consulting firm headquartered in Germany, with offices around Europe. The firm has a longstanding track record in the space industry.
